ANDOVER, MA - Chris Shepley, a member of the Andover School Committee, today announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 18th Essex District. He is launching his campaign with a clear message: The Status Quo Must Go!
Shepley is 20 years old, and if elected, he would be the youngest State Representative serving on Beacon Hill. He said his age allows him to bring a fresh perspective and a new generational voice to the residents of Andover, Boxford, North Andover and Tewksbury.
"For too long, state government has operated on autopilot. Families and seniors are facing rising costs, local officials are burdened with unfunded mandates, and major decisions are made without real local input," Shepley said. "That is the status quo. The status quo must go. Our communities deserve a representative who will ask tough questions, challenge the usual way of doing business, and always put the district first."
As a Republican and lifelong Andover resident, Shepley draws on his service on the School Committee, where he has advocated for fiscal responsibility, transparency and strong academic performance. His campaign will focus on several key priorities:
- Affordability and tax relief for households and small businesses
- Strong and accountable schools with efficient use of taxpayer resources
- Public safety and community support for law enforcement
- Local control and an end to one-size-fits-all mandates from Beacon Hill
Shepley said he is running to bring practical, community-focused leadership to the State House. "Being 20 means I understand the challenges facing young families, first-time homeowners and the next generation entering the workforce. I am not part of the old system. I am here to change it."
The 18th Essex District includes portions of Andover, Boxford, North Andover and Tewksbury.
